Ronaldo's fears for son's career revealed

Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is said to hold worrying concerns about his son's future in football.
That is according to UFC superstar Khabib Nurmagomedov who claims that the Juve star is worried that his 10-year-old son, Cristiano Jr., will lack the motivation needed to succeed him because of his comfortable upbringing. "We chat all the time, texting lots daily, but when we meet in person, we've had a discussion on motivation sources recently," Khabib told YouTube channel Krasava. "He told me he wanted his son to succeed him but he was worried he won't be able to do it since when Cristiano himself was his age, he could only dream about a pair of simple cleats [boots]. "His son has everything. So he's worried that he will never feel that hunger. In fact, people are driven by hunger. One needs motivation, one needs to have a desire to achieve things. When you have everything, it's hard to find a proper source of motivation. "When he told me that, I can't say I was surprised, as things are simple things. But I liked it. I understood that he was such a person who would never be satisfied with one, two or three titles." Ronaldo Jr. appears to have inherited his father's goalscoring ability after being reported to have scored 58 goals in 28 matches during his time with the Bianconeri's U-9 side, but only time will tell to see if he can emulate the five-time Ballon d'Or winners remarkable career.

Klopp explains surprise Salah decision

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has explained his controversial decision to substitute star forward Mohamed Salah during Thursday’s defeat to Chelsea. The reigning Premier League champions continued their poor run of form on Thursday when they suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to rivals Chelsea, courtesy of a first-half goal from England international Mason Mount. As a consequence, the Reds have now lost five consecutive home matches at Anfield for the first time in the club’s history, but the biggest talking point came just after the hour mark when Klopp hauled a visibly frustrated Salah off for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, who is once again leading the goalscoring charts this season, was seen on the sidelines demonstrating his discontent with Klopp’s decision, which the German tactician sought to explain after the match. "Just bringing on fresh legs," the former Borussia Dortmund boss told Sky Sports. "It’s not very often that it happens, but Mo looked today like he suffered a little bit. He’s played a lot of games. "I could have taken off Sadio [Mane] or Bobby [Firmino], that’s all clear, but in the moment, it looked like Mo was suffering the most. [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain has been training really well and you have to respect that as well, and show that you see it…"

Top 10 goalscorers of the 21st century

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi headline the list of the top 10 highest-scoring players of the 21st century. Since the turn of the century, no player has scored more goals across Europe's major leagues than Ronaldo. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has netted an incredible 766 goals for club and country, including a club-record 450 goals for Real Madrid and a European-record 102 for Portugal. Naturally, the current Juventus star is trailed closely by long-time rival Lionel Messi, who features second on the list with 729 goals, albeit in 144 fewer appearances than his nemesis. The Argentine superstar has scored all of his 658 club goals for FC Barcelona, with a further 71 for La Albiceleste. No other player has scored more than 500 goals this century, with the closest to the two frontrunners being legendary AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The former Sweden international has netted 491 goals in 834 games, excluding strikes from his brief spell with MLS side LA Galaxy. The remainder of the top 10 includes a whose-who of footballing pedigree and includes the likes of Luis Suarez, reigning The Best FIFA Men's Player Robert Lewandowski, Edinson Cavani, Sergio Aguero, Karim Benzema and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Samuel Eto'o, who retired from the sport in 2019, is the only African player and the only non-playing striker to feature on the list. The former Cameroon international rounds out the selection with an impressive 353 goals in 697 matches. *Includes the highest-scoring players from Europe's top 10 leagues in the 21st century, covering all competitions and including international goals and appearances.

Chelsea pile more misery on Liverpool

Chelsea boosted their top-four hopes after claiming a 1-0 win over Liverpool, who have now suffered a fifth straight home defeat in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp named Diogo Jota bench, whereas N’Golo Kante and striker Timo Werner returned for the Blues after the goalless draw with Manchester United. It was Chelsea that started strongly after Werner picked up a ball over the top to tuck home, but it was disallowed for offside by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Liverpool soon sprung back to life and nearly found the actual breakthrough from a ball behind the defence by Mohamed Salah, but a complete miskick from Sadio Mane left the visitors off the hook. The Reds though succumbed to the Blues’ resolve three minutes to halftime after Mason Mount brought down a long ball from Kante to cut inside before finding the bottom-corner. A goal-line clearance from Andrew Robertson ten minutes into the second half stopped the Reds conceding a second goal off a low shot in the six-yard area from Hakim Ziyech. Liverpool made a double substitution on 62 minutes in order to overturn the tie, as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain replaced Salah and Curtis Jones sacrificed for Jota. The equaliser nearly arrived inside a minute from a floating ball into the area by Robertson, but Roberto Firmino though nodded beyond the right-hand post. Chelsea though should’ve made it two from a move between Mount and Werner near the final 15 minutes, but Alisson was quick off his line to deny the latter. Klopp’s side came close to draw level late in the match with an instinctive header by Georginio Wijnaldum, but goalkeeper Edouard Mendy gathered to add to Liverpool’s winless woes at home.

R18m Miquissone responds to PSL links

Simba SC winger Luís Miquissone who has been slapped with an R18-million price tag has responded to links with a return to the PSL amid interest from Africa's elite. The 25-year-old winger has emerged as one of the most exciting talents on the continent since joining the Tanzania Premier League champions after an ill-fated stint with Mamelodi Sundowns. With 10 goals and 12 assists in 40 games across all competitions, the Mozambique international has attracted interest from CR Belouizdad, TP Mazembe, Al Hilal, Al Ahly and his former club Sundowns. Having scored the winning goal against the reigning African champions last week in a 1-0 win at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, the club's media officer Haji Manara told Soka La Bongo that he won't be prized away on the cheap.
